How to break up with your boyfriendGet all the advice here!
It's never uncomplicated breaking up with boyfriends, but with our guide we might make it a little less painful!
There comes a time when you know it’s time to say goodbye and finish with him for good but there never seems to be an easy way to do break up with your boyfriend (unless he’s a cheating mongrel!). Funky Female have put together some tips on how to let him down a little more easily
Be clear
When breaking up your boyfriend, while it might be easier to suggest that you need a ‘break’ from the relationship, it’s best to be clear that is really is over for good . By giving your soon-to-be ex-boyfriend false hope means you are leaving yourself open to the possibility of drunken calls asking when you are going to get back together – so it’s best to tell the truth from the start, or you’ll face a whole lot of mess later!
Make sure he’s not the last to find out!
We know you girls like discussing your love lives between yourselves and while it’s really important to get your friends support when deciding to break up with your bloke, try to limit the amount of people you try to get advice from. If you are not careful, it might work its way back to your man – and no one likes to be the last to know they are going to be dumped, male or female.
Break up face to face
When breaking up with your boyfriend, it’s good to remember that while it might be easier to hid behind your PC screen or phone, it’s not the most effective way to break up and certainly won’t endear you to others. Let’s face it, we wouldn’t like to be dumped by email or text message – apart from the fact you can’t read someone’s emotions, it’s also very cowardly! So arrange to meet him face-to-face and have a sit down discussion. It’s also good to arrange somewhere that is neutral and where you will both feel comfortable too – it will just make the whole process a little easier.
Avoid bad excuses
It might not be the best idea to be too brutally honest about why you are breaking up with your boyfriend – it’s not really the best for someone’s self esteem to hear they are rubbish in bed! However, you do need to avoid lying your way out of your relationship as it always has a habit of coming back to haunt you. So don’t tell him you’re joining M15 or flying to the moon or even skipping the country when you really are only living round the corner!
Keep it short
There’s no need to go into every detail of why you want to break up with him – it will just make the process more prolonged, so make your chat short and sweet. Point out one or two areas as to why the relationship isn’t working and leave it at that, ensuring there is no room for negotiation either.
Make sure you’ve got a shoulder to cry on
Even though it’s been your decision, as the cliché says, breaking up is never easy so make sure you arrange to meet a friend after you’ve had ‘that chat’ with your now ex-bloke. It’s likely you will need some kind of comfort and you don’t want to end up seeking comfort from your ex, which can easy lead to post-break up one night stands. It’s best to leave it a while before getting in contact again, that way you can ensure you have both moved on.
