Paul Smith was born in Nottingham in 1946 in 1970 and he opened his first shop, called Paul Smith Vêtement Pour Homme.

In 1993 Paul Smith Launched the R. Newbold collection inspired by the clothes made by the factory of the same name that Smith acquired in 1991. Paul Smith then opened his first Paris store on Boulevard Raspail. In 1994 Paul Smith Introduced a women's wear collection and watches produced in a licensing deal with Citizen which knocks them off their feet.
